Turbo Roundabout Design characteristics

The turbo-roundabout has specific design characteristics, which make this type of roundabout unique:
  1. Nested spiral lane at one or more entries.
  2. Yield to no more than two lanes (deviation might be possible).
  3. Smooth spiral markings.
  4. Raised and mountable lane dividers.
  5. At least one lane offers a choice for direction.
  6. At least two exit legs have two exit lanes.
  7. Approach legs are aligned perpendicularly to the circulatory lanes.
  8. Roundabout signage cuts off the horizon for optimal recognition.
  9. Aprons in central island and armpit are established to keep narrow lane width for passenger vehicles but provide additional driving surface for HGVs.

Regionalized turbo roundabout design
A turbo-roundabout can be designed according to existing guidelines or regulations but variations exist for the following reasons. Whether a designer strictly follows a guideline or deviates from it, he needs to ensure the road infrastructure he plans can accommodate local vehicles. Design vehicles can either be chosen by the designer or imposed by a national guideline, the latter being different from a region to another. Based on this assumption, the turbo-roundabout is no exception and must be planned to accommodate local vehicles.
